The Chatalburun (Fork-nose) Dog of Tarsus

The fifth native Turkish dog breed is called the Çatalburun. It is found in small numbers in the Tarsus region of southern Turkey. The Turkish word çatalburun means fork-nose, given on account of its nose being split down the middle. The Çatalburun has a remarkable sense of smell, and is an excellent hunting dog, particularly in detecting and retrieving prey.
