Stature and Weight

Newborn Puppies: Puppies are 400-600 g (0.9-1.3 lbs) at birth. The birth weight depends on many factors such as the age and weight of the bitch, the size of the litter, the season of the birth, the age of the bitch at the first pregnancy (gestation), and the weight of the male dog. In general, the height of newborn pups at the withers is 11-13 cm (4-5 in), and body length is 14-16 cm (5-6 in), although it is difficult to get correct measurements from newborn pups.

 

Females: In rural conditions weight and the height at the withers are 34-60 kg (75-132 lbs) and 62-82 cm (24-32 in) respectively, and body length is 51-73 cm (20-29 in).

Males: In rural conditions weight and the height at the withers are 42-70 kg (93-154 lbs) and 64-85 cm (25-33 in) respectively, and body length is 54-77 cm (21-30 in).
